Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard to Join Nationwide Bus Tour to Improve Health Care and Lower Costs for Americans

DENVER — On Monday, August 9, Health Care Voices Founder and stage 4 cancer survivor Laura Packard is joining Protect Our Care’s third nationwide bus tour to highlight the need to lower the cost of, expand access to, and address the racial disparities in health care. The tour, entitled “Lower Costs, Better Care,” will begin in Bangor, Maine on Monday and proceed throughout the Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, and end on the West Coast.

At each stop, Laura and other bus tour participants will join forces with local elected officials, Members of Congress, and health care advocates to express their support for including crucial health care policies in Congress’ upcoming budget reconciliation bill. This includes policies such as allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for all Americans, closing the Medicaid coverage gap so that low income Americans locked out of health care can get it, strengthening Medicare to include vision, dental, and hearing, and making the Affordable Care Act health insurance premium reductions from the American Rescue Plan permanent.

“Ahead of the August 15th deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act special enrollment period, I’m joining fellow advocates on “Care Force One” to get the word out on affordable care before it’s too late. As the special enrollment period deadline fast approaches, now is the time to go to healthcare.gov and get covered, the life you save could be your own,” said Health Care Voices founder and Get America Covered Executive Director Laura Packard.

“To Congress, the Biden administration and HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, thank you! Thanks to all of your hard work and support, millions of Americans now have access to the health care they deserve—but there’s still work left to do. We urge Congress to include critical health care policies in the upcoming budget reconciliation bill. We’re traveling coast to coast to spread the word; we won’t stop until every American has affordable health care.”
