Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard Celebrates Senate Vote to Pass the Build Back Better Resolution
DENVER — Today, the U.S. Senate voted to pass the Build Back Better Resolution, a $3.5 trillion bill that will jumpstart the reconciliation process for millions of Americans struggling to gain access to critical infrastructure benefits. The vote paves the way for Senate Democrats to pass a comprehensive spending package that would reshape the future of health care and reprioritize investing in care provisions before another crisis like COVID-19 hits.
If passed, the budget resolution may permanently enact the Affordable Care Act tax credits, fill the Medicaid gap, strengthen Medicare, fund home and community-based services, expand access to paid family and medical leave and lower the cost of prescription drugs—life-saving provisions Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard says come not a moment too soon.
Health Care Voices Founder and Affordable Care Act Advocate Laura Packard issued the following statement:
“As August 15th approaches, the deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act special enrollment period, the Senate vote to pass the Build Back Better Resolution couldn’t have come at a better time. Americans have, for too long, needed sweeping social safety net legislation that would protect all Americans—not just those who can afford it.”
“This mammoth budget resolution will include critical provisions that will improve the lives and livelihoods of millions. From making the Affordable Care Act tax credits permanent, filling the Medicaid gap, strengthening Medicare, funding home and community-based services, expanding access to paid family and medical leave and lowering the cost of prescription drugs, this historic investment will accelerate the health and prosperity of all Americans as our nation heals after the deadliest pandemic of our lifetimes.”
