Health Care Voices Hosts Third and Final Health Care Storytellers Training Sessions of 2022

The final training session on best storytelling practices included helpful tips for health care activists and storytellers looking to get their personal health care experiences covered in the media
DENVER — Last night, Health Care Voices Founder and nationally-known health care advocate Laura Packard hosted the third and final installment for 2022 of an online training series for health care storytellers. The series elevates Health Care Voices’ mission of training as many health care activists and storytellers as possible from now until the end of the year, with a mission of amplifying the message of lowering the cost of healthcare and building momentum to pass health care reforms in key states come 2023.

For her final training session, Laura was joined by two expert panelists to discuss leveraging the news cycle as a part of their strategy for drawing media attention to their personal stories. To highlight perspectives from both an editor and an experienced columnist, Robin Wilson-Glover, Director of Digital Opinion at NJ Advance Media, and author, scientist and lecturer Trish Zornio, shared their experiences with successful op-ed submissions. Together, the panelists provided the audience with a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how editors and columnists alike evaluate timely stories, the editing process, and use both to their advantage to publish op-eds.

“Last night was a fascinating glimpse into the opinion editorial process from start to finish. Thank you so much to Robin Wilson-Glover and Trish Zornio for sharing their expertise, as well as their writing advice and media savvy strategies, with our up-and-coming health care storytellers and advocates. Last night’s training will guide our next wave of advocates as they continue to tell their stories and advocate for real, on-the-ground change across our health care system.” said Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard. “This was a great way to cap off this important training series, establishing yet another crucial building block for advocates looking to reform state-level health care come 2023.”

Laura Packard is the founder of Health Care Voices and a stage-4 cancer survivor. The Affordable Care Act saved her life.
