Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard Celebrates Passage of Build Back Better Act, Turns Attention to Senate

DENVER — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act, the sweeping social policy legislation that addresses a wide range of issues, including health care. While the overall price tag dropped over the course of negotiations, the final bill still includes key provisions that invest in the American people and take significant steps toward an affordable and accessible American health care system.

Health Care Voices Founder and Affordable Care Act Advocate Laura Packard issued the following statement:

“Today, after months of debate, the House passed the Build Back Better Act, the second part of President Biden’s sweeping agenda. This legislation is the largest investment in social policies in decades and would strengthen the health infrastructure millions of Americans desperately need to recover from the deadly pandemic and years of divestment from the social programs many rely on to survive.”

“While the Build Back Better Act has been downsized from its initial proposal, the version that passed the House still contains crucial health care provisions, including extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, filling the Medicaid gap, lowering prescription drug prices, funding home- and community-based services and expanding Medicare to include hearing benefits.”

“We applaud President Biden and our Congressional representatives for their work thus far. Now, we urge our Senators to pass the Build Back Better Act as soon as possible with all of these health care measures intact—because together, these provisions will save countless lives, just as the Affordable Care Act saved mine.”
