Affordable Care Act Advocate Laura Packard Commends Biden-Harris Administration Plan to Reduce Prescription-Drug Prices

Americans pay more than any other country for our medications. No one should have to live like this.

DENVER — Yesterday, the White House unveiled their plan for a key provision in the Build Back Better bill that will reduce prescription drug costs. Upon execution, the plan will empower the government to negotiate Medicare drug prices and pass those lower costs along to the private sector—critical steps that must be taken to ensure that health care is affordable and accessible for all Americans.

While this plan is just the beginning of a multi-step process to lower health care costs, it clearly demonstrates the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to making health care more affordable for American families. As the provision’s scope and speed undergo debate, Affordable Care Act Advocate Laura Packard remains optimistic, and urges Congress to take advantage of this opportunity to make our health care system better now.

Health Care Voices Founder and Affordable Care Act Advocate Laura Packard issued the following statement:

“Americans pay more than any other country for our medications. No one should have to live like this, and the Biden-Harris Administration’s plan to lower prescription drug prices will ensure that we won’t have to.”

“I know firsthand what it’s like to have to choose between my finances and my health. While I was undergoing chemotherapy, my oncologist prescribed a medication to help my immune system recover faster. It was too expensive, so I went without — and wound up in the hospital for a week. I could have died. In the richest country in the world, we shouldn’t be forced into these choices.”

“By enacting the Biden-Harris Administration’s plan to lower prescription drug costs, Congress can ensure that more Americans will have access to the affordable care and prescription drugs they need.”
