Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard Celebrates Historic Senate Vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act

DENVER — This coming Monday, February 28, the U.S. Senate is set to vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, a crucial piece of legislation that would protect the right to abortion access nationwide. The historic vote comes at a crucial moment in time in the light of laws like Texas’ 6-week abortion ban and the impending Supreme Court ruling that could decide the fate of Roe v. Wade.

Health Care Voices Founder Laura Packard issued the following statement:

“We applaud Senator Schumer’s announcement of a Senate vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which comes at a critical moment for reproductive rights and women’s health care nationwide. There has been a coordinated attack on our health care at the state level to restrict access to abortion, especially for women of color and low income people. The ultra-conservative Supreme Court is likely to overturn–or at least significantly undermine–Roe v. Wade this year, robbing millions of Americans of their own bodily autonomy and right to make their own decisions about their health care.”

“The WHPA provides Senators with the opportunity to protect abortion access and women’s health care before it’s too late. The WHPA would protect access to safe, legal abortions nationwide, establishing a statutory right to provide and receive safe abortions across the country–a policy the majority of Americans support. Abortion access is an essential component of health care, and the WHPA would ensure that everyone, regardless of where they live or how much they make, has access to that essential care.”

“We urge our Senators to support the Women’s Health Protection Act–because decisions about one’s health belong in the hands of individuals and their providers, not politicians.”
